The Jewish Community of Ecuador was founded in 1938, when some European Jews started to arrive in Ecuador before the beginning of the Second World War.
Finished the Second World War and during the following years, the Community was integrated by about 5.000 members. A wave of immigration from Argentina and Chile took place once again and nowadays, we are only almost 600 people. The number of members of our congregation has decreased because there is no immigration and young people from universities used to go abroad and do not come back. Most of them settles in the United States and Israel.
The Jewish Community offers several kind of services such as: religious, educational, cultural and social ones. Our communitarian center also includes sport fields and we are expecting to build the new Elder Home as soon as possible.
We also have kosher restaurant, food and products, a Mikvah and so on. The community counts on its own funeral service and cemetery, whose religious guidance is led by our Rabbi Alejandro Mlynski. Our religious line is the conservative one.
Above the Community, there are some other organizations like: Bnai Brith, Hanoar Hatzioni, which is our young movement managed by our Sheliaj Paul Rozenberg, and representatives from KKL and Keren Hayesod. In addition, the community works together with the Alberto Einstein High School that, despite of being an independent entity, was sponsored by the Jewish Community.
We are proud of being a small, but a complete congregation, which, during these last years, has become acquainted in this continent and further. This is because every contact that we remain with other World Jewish institutions.
Our communitarian center was built in 2000 thanks to its members’ contribution and its synagogue is one of the most beautiful ones in America.
There is a very active participation of members, especially on Shabbat, religious holidays and different activities organized during the whole year.
